Because my truck has thrown the same codes several times and it seems like its more now thats its cooled off. P0170 Powertrain Bank #1, P04DB and P06EA.
Because of this I'm thinking about adding the ESP on the truck. I don't normally make such a purchase on my vehicles and would normally handle issues myself but most of the time issues come up way down the road.
I'm wondering if there is anything I should be thinking about or losing further into if I go the ESP route?
It's always a tough choice, because an extended warranty is paying out now for something that might not go wrong later. But it gives you peace of mind, which is why I got one for my 2015, in fact, I am thinking of upping the years/miles on mine... Only because I think I may keep this truck longer than 6 years total. Ohh and I thought it was worth it for the first day rental car, enhanced rental, and $0 deductible so I wouldn't get deductibled to death. I sorted guaranteed that nothing warranty wise will happen.
If you are planning on adding one, I would look at a couple of online places, like Flood Ford. I saved darn near 50% off what my local dealer offered. (I did give them the Flood Ford price and they matched it)
I've owned vehicles with and without - one reason I decided to get one is that the fuel system, motor, and tranny are all expensive repairs this is pennies on the dollar for those. PLUS - with the ESP I get a rental while waiting to get it fixed. Our 6.7s are just too expensive and complicated to DIY fix, IMHO. I don't fault anyone either way...
Dakster,
Thanks for the response. I too am thinking of owning this truck for a long time. I really wouldn't need a rental unless we were traveling or was on a long trip with the 40' fifth wheel. Does the ESP cover towing also? I have towing with my auto membership but always looking at other issues too.
Flood and Zeigler offer the best online prices that I have found. Zeigler offers financing and is about 200-300 more than Flood. I bought from Zeigler since I wanted to finance it over a year at 0% interest.
My truck is still in base warranty and should be for the next ten months. At that point, I will purchase an extended plan.
Writing a $26,000 check to replace the 6.7L because important stuff let go would not be an easy check to write.
ESP covers plenty of other important and expensive items on the truck.
I'll never own a 6.7L without some type of coverage.
But this is just me. Plenty of other people here think this is a complete waste of money and they are likely right. Most insurance is, until you need it. That's the way insurance works. I don't want to be the guy making the emotional post here because my truck is broken and I am one moment or one mile outside of warranty coverage. Ford understands their warranty obligation and tends to have little sympathy for owners of broken trucks that are just out of coverage. Owners of Ford products need to understand this.

not sure on towing. between AAA and my insurance company I have towing coverage so it wasn't something I was looking at.
I'm actually looking at Flood Ford ESP right now as we speak.
Just to be sure, I'm looking at this correctly, If I chose Premium Care with the $100 deductible,125K miles and the 5 years, in my particular case the ESP would only extend me an additional 2 years bumper to bumper and 25K miles on the power train because I bought my truck June of 2015?

Yes, only adds 2 years. Many on here and other forums generally for for the 7 or 8 year duration.
I bought the 6/60k $0 deductible and I am thinking of paying the difference to up that to 7 or 8 years... I already paid off the extra cost for the first extension... You can add more up until the truck is 3 years old or has 36k miles on it.
And it goes by date the truck was first put into service and the miles are literally to what it says on the dash. So for me 6 years to day I bought the truck and when the dash mileage says 60,000 my warranty is over unless I up it.
If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying because you purchased the 6/60 you can add additional years and milage to the ESP as long as you are either under the 6 years or 60K miles? So in your case, today you are at 6 years but under 60K. Tomorrow you would be over the 6 years but under the 60K and your saying because your under the 60K you still have coverage?
I purchased my truck June of 2015 and now have 33,150 miles.
Since our purchase, about 1 year and 5 months, we have made some long trips pulling the 5er and have racked up a few miles. I don't expect we will slow down much in the next couple of years either.
Not exactly. You can only add up to you hit 3/36k... Whatever you have at that mark is it...(at least as I understand it). It's why I now have a decision to make regarding mine as well.
On my own, I need to figure out when I am going to trade it in so I can make the best economical decision.
