I would appreciate any input with respect to extended warranties. The cost of the Ford (Diesel/4x4) for 6yrs./100,00 miles is $2750 (35,775 miles). However, in looking at other warranty companies they cost a lot less money. Why is Ford's so much and is it worth it ???
FMC price is MSRP and they will discount it if you ask. Also ANY Ford Dealer can sell you the extended warrenty so if the local shop does not want to cut you a deal go someplace else. Also Ford will be there in 6 years, we have seen some of the others go away along with your money.
ford warranty honored at any ford dealer us/canada, while in base warranty,if vehicle is in for repairs alternate transportation is available, some aftmkt co.s wont cover tranportation unless they are involved in repair::some--lastly-not all dealers will not honor aftmkt warranty, you may be responsible for payment and then the wait game for reimbursement, also some aftmkt warranties wont pay normal motor times for described repairs, meaning you will have to burden the difference in labor dollars, rental is based on labor time only for repairs,ie: 5 hr job 1 day rental no excuses for delays, factory warranty is the way to go,ford diamler chrysler gm etc.
I negotiated the 6 year 105,000 into the deal when I bought. It really became a bone of contention with the salesman, but I was buying my 2001 PSD 7.3 4x4 Limited in the fall of 2001, with 3500 miles on it. I was buying it from the guy who put the 3500 miles on it since it was new. It was his demo/ daily driver. At first I had issues with the price, the financing, and the warranty. But the guy kept calling me back. Finally I got the truck at the price I wanted to pay. I have never looked back. Three and a half years later I can still say that this is the best vehicle of any type that I have ever driven. I'm 45 years old and I've driven quite a few. Chevy-please, Dodge-give me a break! I don't care what any other manufacturer puts into their vehicles. There is nothing better to drive or own than the Ford Excursion. Ford knew what they had in the Navistar Powerstroke. It's a match made in heaven. My insurance company just gave us a rebate of over $300 for safe driving. I can see over anything on the road unless it's a tandem or semi rig. My truck is bone stock and so I can only imagine what someone else who's put the big bucks into their Excursion would say.
In closing, I've never used my extended warranty, but I'm glad I have it. Sit and talk to your dealer's salespeople, let them know what you like and what you don't. And if it's the money that you don't like, don't think twice about telling them so. It's your nut to crack every month. They have the ability to send you home happy, don't be afraid to make them earn your sale.
I would say the extended warranty is good if you leave your truck stock, otherwise you may have problems.
I have heard of warranty claims denied when using a chip or tunner. Also, don't expect any warranty help with a lift and big tires.
Although I have only raised my X 2" and run 285 tires, I didn't want to risk paying ~$1600 and not being able to get a claim done. It has happened to others.
I have never heard of a ford dealer not covering something because of a mild lift and aftermarket tires. My dealer did my lift and sold me the warrenty. And said dont worry about it we did it all hear. In fact they sell trucks on the lot with kits on them. Now if you got 10-12 inches of lift and 40 inch tires and your tranny goes out they might say something. The key is to have a good repore with your dealer.
I know this thread is about 2 months old so pardon me for rattling your brains a bit. I just went to my local ford dealership inquiring about the Premium extended service plan. I could not believe that they were quoting me $2995. And they wanted 10% down and the balance in 17 monthly payments with 0% interest. Does this sound about right? I know this is through ford, but are all dealerships charging the same price?
Thanks and drive safe,
Dan

In March 2000, I paid around $1300 for the 5 year 75,000 mile, Premium with the $50 deductable on a showroom new 2000 Windstar SE $30,000 MSRP. In October 2001, I got the dealer to throw in a 6 year 105,000 mile Premium (not sure of deductable, haven't used it yet), (just in case of catastrophic failure) on a 2001 Excursion Limited 7.3 Powerstroke dealer demo with 3500 miles on it, paid $37,000 on a $51,000 vehicle. I kept telling the dealer that the deal we made revolved around the price of the truck and the free extended warranty. The dealer kept coming back to me with numbers, and when he hit my magic number, I said "when can the truck be ready?" He said, "tonight". I said "draw up the papers, and I'll be there tonight". I've never looked back. Best vehicle I've ever owned-bar none- and I've driven a few.
