I started driving the old Ford to work last week. I have it running and starting well. Thank you all for the help with that.
I only have high in the heater fan. Thanks to the search I think I have that figured out.
I can't change from defrost to floor. It doesn't have a radio I can reach in and found that there is no cable on the lever for the defrost/floor/vent lever. I can't find that cable hanging anywhere in there. I see a vacuum can/switch and when I actuate it by hand it changes the heat to floor. Can someone give me better details on where this cable should be?
You won't have a cable with factory a/C, it's all controlled by vacuum.
If the OP's '83 F150 does in fact have factory installed integral A/C (that is combined with the heater), it has: E3TZ-19988-A .. Temperature Control Cable that is 1983 only.
But, some people don't know that their 1980/86 trucks with A/C have dealer installed A/C that does not have this cable
It has part no 18A318. I can actuate it by hand and make it change from defrost to floor. I know the lever has a place for a cable but I can't find anything to hook to it. I'm sure the vacuum going to the heater controls isn't correct. I hear the heat/ cold door slam shut every time I start the truck. It does switch from hot to cold air and seems to be working as it should though.

1980/86 F100/350 & Bronco with factory installed integral A/C or Hi/Lo Comfort Vent System: There are THREE different 18A318's:
This is probably the one you want:
EOTZ-18A318-B .. Defroster Door Vacuum Control Motor - 2 ports - located on Plenum Chamber (Motorcraft YH-363) / Obsolete ~ 4 available NOS

Yes, the temperature control stuff is cable-actuated but he's talking about the vent position controls, those are all vacuum-controlled with factory A/C and care cable-controlled with just a heater.
