Just wondering what is normal.. I've only ever driven my 6.0.
When I do a true cold start, my coolant temp rises faster than my oil temp. usually about 10* higher. then around about 140* the oil catches up, then maintains about a 5-10* delta above coolant. (10 month old oil cooler, EGR delete). Oil stays in the 180* range, coolant in the 170* range. Does this sound right? Gets hotter if I'm hauling or towing.
Also, since my recent oil change (mobil 1 full synthetic to rotella full synthetic), I've noticed the oil is much closer to the coolant temp than it used to be. Normal? less gunk in the oil to keep it from heating up as much?
Sorry, one last question..
When my truck is cold, it has no power until the coolant is about 140* (or the bottom line on the gauge) , and then its like a switch is turned and it drives like normal. I guess it could be a temperature related to the oil temp too, I've just noticed it's right around 140* coolant. My question is.. I've been hearing it could be the ICP or stiction. any guesses?
Yes! I would install the Mishimoto 200° stat. I did and it bettered the oil/coolant spread another 5°. Ford says to have a 190 stat. Theirs will not keep temps at 190 for long. They always seem to fail open and truck runs crappy after that.
When failing, then fail to the cold side... you need a new one. It should be closer to 192*. Also, you switched from Mobil 1 to Rotella T6? From good to worse.... switch to Delo LE400 5w-40, much better oil and even cheaper than T6!
Yep... the Mishimoto 200*... way better than the Ford 192*
Do the t-stats get stuck full open, or just partially open?
Mine was not "stuck" The spring was just weak and letting coolant through too early. Long drives 170* hauling maybe 200* Not too bad to replace. I should have done the upgrade but bought the ford replacement. Next time will go with the 200*
