Hi I am in the process of rebuilding this truck for my first truck, and I am curious if anybody has the set of letters for this tailgate panel or know of anyone that sells them. Thanks, Joe

The tailgate finish panel letters are reproduced by Carpenter, $59.95 for all 4.
Carpenter's part number: E0TZ-9840282-SET .. Applications are 1980/85 .. but in reality, 1980/84 is one type, 1985/86 is another.
Ford didn't sell the letters by themselves, they were only available with the finish panel.

i briefly owned a Mercur Mountaineer that I picked up used. That's Mercur, not Mercury, as it was missing the Y on the tailgate. No big deal, I figured I'd just pick up a new Y from my local dealer. The poor parts guy couldn't find it, nor could his supervisor. They politely told me they would have to do some more research and get back to me. The next day they called to tell me the individual letters were not available separately and only came as part of the complete tailgate assembly. Yikes!
The second one designates free shipping... that's something. I see these in the junkyard from time to time but usually not in very good shape. Perhaps I should at least be buying spare letters...
