Can OBD send bad signal to ScanGauge II??

RE: 2005 Ford E-450 V10 Motorhome

On my previous thread, my gauges went crazy after charging batteries (went dead after 2 months of no use).

Installed a new battery. Scan Gauge II, when connected, caused same problem of gauges and check engine light to come on.

Figured ScanGaugeII was fried. Exchanged for a new one

I installed a NEW ScanGauge II and the identical problem persists.

Unplugged from OBDII port and all is perfect. Plug in Scan Gauge and all goes crazy.

Can it be that my OBD II is not recognizing the ScanGauge II and/or recognizing it incorrectly?

Does the OBD II need to be reset? How is this done?

I'm at a loss of what to do next at least until Monday when I call the Scangauge company.

Seems very strange. I'm no expert, but a couple of kneejerk ideas. Is the scangauge getting power? If not you could check the OBD fuse. Only other thought would be something to do with a bad ground somewhere.

The ScanGauge is a simple plug in to OBD under dash. No hardwiring.

I believe it is getting power, as it causes dash gauges/lights to malfunction when plugged in and dash gauges/lights return to normal when ScanGauge is unplugged from OBD port.

Does the ScanGauge actually turn on like it's getting power?

If whatever you plug into the OBD-II port interferes with the signalling on the CAN bus, the gauges will go nuts. Are you sure that ScanGauge is compatible with your truck?

Thing is, if it's not getting power, it might not "play nice" and cause issues.
