6.8L fuel injector upgrade?

are there any option for upgrading the fuel injectors on the 2v 6.8 motors? does anybody know the design of the 2000 injectors? D2 or D3?

They are 19lb injectors for the v10 you probably already knew that though the 5.4 used the green injectors which I believe were 22lb but without proper tuning and supporting mods or a reason that you need more fuel like boost there is no reason for bigger injectors unless I'm missing something. I always wondered why they used the smaller injectors in the v10 though maybe some one here will know the answer.

Maybe it's just that the 5.4 requires more work than the V10- in comparable situations.

Imagine them both on a dyno next to each other. Put them under load and get each engine to produce 225horsepower on the chart. I bet the V8 requires more fuel and air to produce than the V10. Hence; bigger injectors.

What do you all think?

also I just found online the V10 produces 362hp (sounds like a 3valve). That's 36.2hp per injector.
And the 5.4 produces 310hp (2010 3valve). That's 38.75hp per injector. Maybe the cutoff is in between 36.2 and 38.75.

Also keep in mind that those are peak power numbers, and we drive these engines well below peak most of the time. Maybe the part throttle injector performance

There's really no reason a V10's cylinder would need less (or more) fuel to produce the same power as a V8.

I would think the lower-flow injectors might produce a better spray pattern at low flow than the bigger injectors. Might be one of the reasons for the V10's superior low-end-torque.

does anybody know if the early 6.8's used a design 2 or 3 injector?

my understanding is the newer bosch D3's have better spray nozzles and atomization. I just can't find any info on when the D3's were released. the D3 swap is big in the fox bodied mustangs and Camaro's from the same timeframe

I would think the lower-flow injectors might produce a better spray pattern at low flow than the bigger injectors. That's a very interesting point, with which I readily agree. Might be one of the reasons for the V10's superior low-end-torque. Doesn't this part of your statement contradict your first paragraph? :-)
see my notes above, and in the interest of full disclosure – I expected the horsepower per cylinder results to be more different than what my original post indicated.
Interesting discussion here.
