I ran into the reliability issue that "Blue and White" mentions with reman/premium remans so I got one of those Powermaster 7078 (75amp) alternators from Summit/Jegs and never looked back. It's NEW, bolted right up (v belt, 1G), retained all the wiring/gauge functionality that I've read you lose (or have to retrofit) in most 1 wire 3g conversions and I got plenty of juice to boot.
Note: it did set me back $125 which as the other guys say - not the cheapest route.
2cents: I went with the 75amp 1G because I'd read (likely in FTE) that 1G's >100amp can give the external regulators trouble, If I needed that much I'd have gone 3G like the guys here recommend.
Thanks for all the input fellas, decided to go with a New alternator from Summit 'Tuff Stuff 7078' 70amp...... Had great reviews. And its reallllly nice being in the same state as the Summit Racing western warehouse, cuz it will be here tomorrow, never had an order that didn't show up the next day Want to make sure I had enough parts to keep me at work on the truck through the holiday weekend..... Hopefully this weekend, headers are in, alternator in, power steering pump replaced, hoses replaced and pump mounted........ Then I can start looking at radiators which reminds me I need to update my rubbing flexplate post.....
