Hard hot start

E99 zf6 180k. Ts 6 position and 6637. Just found d out the oil was 25000 miles old and changed it. 400 mile trip followed by a few days in town with no problems. Shut it off warm and it won't refire. Takes 3 loooong cranks. Few minutes later it restarts hard but not as hard. Head out for a few hundred mile trip and it's running fine except all of a sudden "bucks" a few times within a couple hour window. I took data during the trip and never saw anything strange. Today a cold start, around town driving, and warm restart were all normal.

My thoughts are to 1. Verify steady fuel pressure (I only have a temporary gauge setup) 2. Check the fuel filter for oil. 3. Pull the valve covers to look for injector oil leaks.

#3, though, I dunno if it's worth it. Perdels look fine and icp seems to be about the same as it always has.

First off 25K is a long time between changes (for me at least). If it was black right away I would do another change, maybe two. Your other issues bring to mind possible UVCH issues, especially with the "bucking". However there are a number of issues that can cause that.
What are you using to log data with? Some devices are not compatible with our older 7.3's

25k on oil would really scare me. I am sure it was as thin as water coming out of that engine.

Anyway, a common issue related to no start when warm is injector o-rings. When the oil is cold and thick, it can build enough ICP to start usually. But when oil is warm and thin, it cannot build the required ICP to start (500psi). You can verify this is the problem with a scan tool.

Forscan lite on iPhone will not show much data while cranking. Hot idle ICP last night was 490-500 psi. Was 480-490 before I changed oil according to my old logs.

It stored a cam sensor code right after I bought it a few months ago. I've had a new one in the toolbox ever since, should probably just go ahead and change it,

Does an injector oil side oring typically show up in perdels? Also, I'm curious if this is normal: I only get perdels data at hot idle, otherwise they all read 0.0 which I'm sure really means there is no data.

The main question on the CPS is where you got it. Generally speaking when replacing sensors it is OEM only. Either Ford or International as the case may be.

The Cps I purchased is ford. Pretty sure the one in the truck is gray and the new ford unit I bought is black. I Aldo have a new ford ipr pigtail I'll install; mine is melted but I wiggled and pulled on that once I was safely home and it didn't seem to be the problem. I replaced the tin nut that fell off the other day with a brass one and it is holding tight.

I changed out the new looking gray cam sensor for a new ford gray and also replaced the ipr pigtail. I also found 3 of the 4 battery cables to be a little loose.

Other than the perdels looking a touch worse, it seems to be working good now. Cold, warm, and hot start were as good as I would ever expect. ICP hits 1200 while cranking.
