Speed Sensor Problems - 2001 F250 5.4L
Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a 2001 F250 2WD, 5.4L with 400k miles on it and am having a few issues. Would appreciate you guys' advice.
I have these codes:
P0503 - Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" Intermittent/Erratic/High
P0720 - Output Speed Sensor Malfunction
P0722 - Output Speed Sensor No Signal
P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)
I'm not too worried about the lean code, pretty well versed in finding vacuum leaks.
Of the other codes, here's what I've found/been told; feel free to chime in/verify the info:
- P0503 is from the ABS speed sensor in the differential
- P0720 and P0722 are from the speed sensor which is located on the tail end of the transmission
How hard is it to replace these sensors? I can't find any videos or DIY guides for replacing them. My friend looked up the procedures in ALLDATA (described over the phone) and he says transmission mounts need to come off, the transmission needs to be dropped, and all sorts of trouble. He did say I should be able to very easily reach and replace the ABS speed sensor on the diff.
Any guidance on the procedure would be great; this is my work truck and I practically live out of it.
