Injector install

Hey guys, my stage 1 Rosewoods came in today and I am planning on starting install in the morning. I just wanted to start a thread on it before I get started in case I have any issues. Any tips or special techniques that any of y'all have? Thanks guys!

Use half motor oil and half petroleum jelly mixed well and coat the O rings good. Rubber mallet them to a stop and torque them.

What Glenn said, and torque them.

I realize he already said it, I'm just saying it again.

120-140 INCH pounds is the correct torque spec. Also, remove the rear most one first so that most of your oil drains in the back cylinder. It'll be less for the other cylinders to get out. Let's see....rubber mallet...tap until you hear the tone change to a "ting"...make sure your cups are good and clean and in good shape....cover ALL of the holes where stuff can fall into...as Glenn said, LUBE GENEROUSLY before seating them to protect the O-Rings.I bathed mine in motor oil by hand and really really coated them. You can't use too much oil. Let us know if you run into issues. We are here to help.

Also, get a good flashlight and really look into the bottom of the injector cups. I almost put one injector in on top of the old copper washer that had fallen off the previously installed injectors.

Thanks for all of the replies! I've got them all in, what is the best way to turn the engine over to get the oil out? I tried the alternator bolt but the belt just slips... and I can't get enough leverage on the crank.

I turned mine over with a 1/2 in breaker bar on the balancer bolt

I bump the starter solenoid.... makes a mess so get a couple rags and cover the valve train or put a bolt or two on the valve covers.

If that's not a good method, someone tell me because I don't want to hurt this new motor and that's what I'm planning on doing when I install the new injectors.

bumping the starter isn't good, if there is enough oil in a cylinder you could bend a rod as it can be pushed out fast enough

when I did mine it was a fountain on the rear cylinders and took some effort to move the breaker bar as it was full of oil and fuel

and on first good hard run it smoked a lot as there was plenty of oil and fuel in the up pipes and exhaust that burned off

Use a mity-vac and get what you can out and then with the glow plugs out use a breaker bar on the balancer bolt.

Got it done and running! I used my 30" swivel ratchet to get to the balancer bolt, just had to find the right angle to come from and use some elbow grease. It did smoke a lot on the first run, I drove it about 20 miles. Without a chip it has quite a bit more power than it did... can't wait to get the chip.
