Thumbs up Valvoline

Well, after a short stint with Chevron Supreme 5w30, I've gone back to Valvoline. Nothing wrong with the Chevron, it's just that I wanted to try Valvoline Maxlife, and I just rolled over 75K so I'm eligible for usage (according to the bottle ).

I tell you what - I've run, in chronlogical order, Valvoline All climate, Mobil 1, Valvoline again, Chevron Supreme, and Valvoline Maxlife in my motor, and it honestly seems to run much smoother with Valvoline in it! There was nothing wrong with the other oils, but like I said, it seems to run smoother and "creamier" (that's the only way I can describe it) with Valvoline.

I'm sending the Chevron Supreme away to Blackstone for analysis - I want to see if anything's going on in there. I was running 5K mile intervals, but everything I've read has told me that I qualify for "severe" service (lots of stop & go traffic, hot weather, A/C, short trips, etc.) so I switched the Chevron Supreme out after 3K miles.

We'll see what Blackstone has to say.

Valvoline

I have only run Valvoline in my truck but my dad used to run penzoil in is vehicles till the parts store was out one day and he had to change it so he got valvoiline. and since then thats all he has used. He says that they seem to run smoother and quieter than with Valvoiline.
Has anyone ever tried the Engine restore treatment?????? my truck has *19,000 miles, bought it used and i am assumeing its 119,000 but it could very well be more. I am just trying to find some cheap upgrades to bring some life back to the good ole 300. Any suggestions??

The Restore is full of solids . IMO it would only be good for a motor with severe damage to the cylinder walls .

If you want to treat your 300ci motor you might think about going to a NAPA store and getting some Lubegard Brand
Flush @ $6.00 a bottle since you don't know it's history. It is a very good and safe flush with no reason for a short oil change interval after using it then stick some good old 10/30 Motorcraft or Mystik oil for winter in Oklahoma and 10/40 for summer if towing or working the truck hard.

If reasonable care has been given to that motor you might have in all likelyhood another 200k miles left in it. Great motors they were !

I used to use Engine Restore (the blue goop in the silver can) in my '93 Isuzu Rodeo V6 (next time you see an older Rodeo, listen - they all have horrible valve tap).

It worked pretty good, actually - it ran smoother, consumed less oil, etc. Probably because the Engine Restore was slightly thinner than vaseline and just gummed everything up so it wouldn't make noise.

After not driving the Rodeo for a few years, I drove it to Parris Island, SC, to pick up a friend who was graduating from boot camp (Marine Corps). Along the way, I had to dump a quart of 20w50 every time we stopped for gas

It just ate it right up. That thing was a warhorse.

i have use that max life right when it came out. good stuff, really helped my chevy suburban with the leaking valve seals, it is not a drastic change but after awhile it helps, give it time and change it more offten the first few times, i found it helped clean out alot of sluge in the engine. i was going to use it in my ford, but the engine let go before i could try it.

despite the valvoline ads, i dont think mileage alone is an indicator of when (if ) you should use the "long life" oil. If your oil was changed every 3,000 and the truck is not leaking/using oil, i suggest you stay away from the "long life" oil, and the additives such as Restore. IMO.

I usually change my oil when it starts to get dark brown to black in color. usually between 2500 and 3500 miles. I have used valvoline all climate oil in my truck since i got it a little over a year ago. I ran 10w 40 last summer and my oil pressure seemed to stay towards the high end of the gauge so i tried 10w 30 this summer and it dang sure moved around on tht dang idiot gauge that ford used in the 80's. I had some bad oil consumption so i put in a new pan gasket, it still used some oil but not as much. I dunno if i was smart or stupid in putting a can of that restore in into it. It runns smother a little quieter and hasn't used any oil for about 2000 miles and about 6 months.i just hope i didnt bend over and insert foot by putting a can of engine restore into it.
