Brief contact (cleaning only) should not be a problem. Extended contact (soaking, etc.), though, is not recommended. Just wipe them down again with a light coat of engine oil after the contact and before reconnecting the fittings.

I went through the same questioning back in the summer when I soaked both brand new serpentine and timing belts with engine oil on my daughter's Volvo. I was faced with either cleaning and re-using or replacing the oily belts with another set of brand new ones. The advice above is what I got as I sought input from both Volvo and Ford folks on multiple forums. I cleaned both with Dawn dishwashing detergent, rinsed them well, rinsed them off with Brakleen, dried them off really well, re-installed them, and there are no signs of any problem with either belt.
