Just a lower end thought:

You can get (nonmagnetic) guides like this that'll keep you mostly straight...
Either way, though, you are drilling several inches deep with a 27/64" steel drillbit; it can and will veer off a little as there is nothing to guide it as you are just upsizing the hole.
