Previous version titled "And so it begins"....I'm glad that's no longer appropriate because I'm somewhere in the middle now. Tanks Inc. Mustang 22 gallon in the rear with send and return lines for fuel injection. Fresh 390 engine and rebuilt C-6. The holes in the dash are for the three A/C louvers and the A/C-heat control levers. The interior is painted stone grey to match the 40-20-40 seat set I adapted from a 2010 F-150. Power discs and Power steering from a 1974 F-250. Thanks John Wilker for that advice!!
That looks awesome, mine is going into the paint booth next weekend. Going with Academy blue outside and Wimbledon white inside. I like that you didn't do the typical color scheme, I am also doing a non-stock color layout. What color blue is that? I really like the grey color inside!
You're doing a fabulous job! What kind of fuel injection will you be using? What kind of air conditioning? Have you trial fit the seats yet? I took mine out of a 2002 F-150 extended cab and they just barely fit. Most of my friends say they actually don't fit as they are really too big for the cab of my '66, but they would be better with an automatic which you have. What are your plans for the fuel filler? '37 Ford Guy has a really nice set up behind his license plate. Looking forward to more progress reports.
Very very nice. Is the dash grey? If so why did you go grey instead of white like the outside?
i think he may have already answered your question with the info he gave: "The interior is painted stone grey to match the 40-20-40 seat set I adapted from a 2010 F-150"
Lookin good Resonateur! Your absolute attention to detail is amazing. Everything looks better than new and cant wait to see more progress on your beautiful ride! I' ll be watchin, learnin, and rootin ya on all at the same time. Love this site!
Thanks gentlemen! Ya, the stone grey interior to match the seat set. Headliner and door panels will match as well, as that vinyl is still available. I decided against the white, because there would be no other white in the interior except the lower dash...out of context, I thought. The color is Marlin Blue and Wimbledon White. The FI I'm using is the FItech unit. They just came out with a 2-400 hp unit at $795.00 but the reviews haven't beeen as glowing as the previous edition, which is the one I'll probably be going with. The A/C unit is Vintage Air. I didn't buy a kit because I don't like those plastic under dash pods. So, I'm piecing my own together for an in-dash look. The 2010 seats were cut down 4" and the factory seat covers unstitched and resewn to fit. I shaved the large headrests. I have fabricated custom brackets to bolt them in with under floor nut plates to reinforce. 3-point seat belts as well! I posted pics of the seats some time ago, but I can add them again if you're curious. The fuel filler is in the bed. Not my favorite choice, but easy. I couldn't put it behind the license plate because the filler would be too low for the tank. I wanted the tank as high up in the frame as I could get it and even had to modify the bed crossmember to clear the fuel lines. Just want to emphasize that the assistance I got on FTE made many of the mod's possible for me!
I was going to comment on the size of stereo someone cut into the dash and then I remembered you said the holes are for the ac. I love these trucks in blue!
Looks really nice, It takes a lot of time for sure but when it starts to come together and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel it's a great feeling.
Thanks aj. The tank came from Tanks Inc. They list is as a 70's (72?) Mustang tank, and capacity of 22 gallons. I have an in-tank fuel pump with the lines running up the right hand side of the frame. There's more room on the right due to the brakes and steering on the driver side. The fuel lines will end up on the rear of the FI unit...so either side works. The filler is on top of the tank accessed through a door I made in the bed floor. I made the access door out of a spare piece of original bed floor with about a 1/16" gap, so it will blend in nicely.
My mentor:
If and when that would become necessary, I can lift the bed....only six bolts and that way I can utilize the entire bed with the exception of the fuel filler access....
