Seeing day through bed

Curious if it's normal to see day light through the box on seams. Even after liner I can see through cracks in bed lines near the cab.

Don't think I have ever ran into this before in a truck. It also has those weird black bumpers on tail gate others have posted about. Add onto that a yellow colored line in paint on roof and in box.

The bed seams are large-ish. I was looking at them today and had the same thought. The gap where you think there shouldn't be one appears to simply be a result of the stamping and fitting process. Ford clearly thought that the gap is ok. There's another gap which looks like it is intended. It's a deformation right at the bed wall where the lower bed ridges meet. That is clearly meant to allow water to get through.

This is the seam in question:

These must be for water drainage:

This one shows the gap with a light placed under the truck. Kind of hard to see.

Yep...I noticed the same thing last night as I was putting my new bed mat in over my spray in liner. I could see my driveway through the cracks in my new pickup bed!!!! LOL

Expansion gap! Lol well if all the trucks have it then guess is what it is. I just don't recall any other truck having a gap ever. Maybe case of looking to hard for faults.

Different materials require different parameters for design. Aluminum expands or contracts twice as much compared to mild steel for a given temperature delta. That, along with the fact that many panels are glued together now instead of tack welded, and you get larger gaps in some places to keep the truck from tearing itself apart in all climates from Alaska to Arizona.

I could in my 2015 Platinums bed, water would always drain out of it.

I'm happy the seams are larger so water can drain out easier. My old-gen trucks would always have some dirt in the bed which would clog the drains and the bed would hold water.

Just love the waterfall out the tailgate when accelerating on the road after a rainy night. Tonneau stops that. Even worse is rain and then freeze. Skating rink for squirrels, especially with the plastic bedliners.
