351m cams?

I am looking at two cams summit racing offers, but I wanted input from you guys on which cam y'all use. Any mods to the engine, cam profile and how you like the cam over the stock one.

That's a pretty hot cam for a stock 351M.

I run the 5200 in my Cleveland and it's great. Tons of torque, smooth idle, great vacuum.

I also went with the Summit 5200-love it!!! Kit came with lifters and assembly lube. While you have it out, change the timing set for a double-roller, installed straight-up.

Or even advanced... although the summit cam has advance built into it.

A stock timing set for a 71 400 motor will be straight up as well. And be cheaper. Plenty durable for a stock engine.

Just throwing out options.

do y'all have videos of your idle with the 5200? How much power do think it added? I already have a holey 650 carb, rpm performer intake and long tube headers on it. Thanks for the timing chain reminder! I planned on this years ago then life got in the way and I completely forgot about changing the timing chain

I put in a summit 3500 (from memory).

Worked well....good tq, good power, smooth idle.

made 240 rwhp/355rwtq on a mustang type chassis dyno.

I figured an honest 350-375bhp out of that ol 400.

Mine was dyno estimated to make 350hp and 415lb-ft.... torque curve is basically flat from 2000-4500rpm.

Bck in 1987 I put a Crane Fireball Cam in my '77's 351M, used new lifters and the rest of the valve train is OEM stock stuff. The cam is no longer made by Crane as far as I know, but I have the spec sheet on it and it is exactly same as the Edelbrock # 2172 which reads same as the Summit # SUM 5200. With a new straight up / adv timing gear & chain I installed, it did perk up from the oem cam as I recall.

It's likely not seen 5,000 rpm more than a couple three times (not recently either) as I am not hard on it and I've done bearings once at 75,xxx .... about 30K ago.
