I just re-read this and forgot to tell you my smog/air pump isnt running. It's hooked up but no belt is turning it. Should I hook it back up? I got the truck like this and passed emissions the first time without. But now with some fixes I made maybe truck is running too good and now need the smog/air pump to adjust for the emissions?

I just turned the pulley and it seems the pulley still works so I'm assuming if I hooked it back up it would still work.

Yup put the belt back on . This will pull the HC and MO levels way down. This is why the cat burnt up in the first place no secondary air injection.

The thermatic (secondary air injection/A.I.R) system provides oxygen in to the exhaust stream to burn (combust) unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust system. With out it the Cat Con (catalytic converter) is trying to process ALL of the un-burnt hydrocarbons, this will invariably lead to failure of the cat due to over heating. If you keep the cat you HAVE to keep the thermatic system (if equipped). You can pull the cat and keep the thermatic system, but you can not keep the cat and pull the thermatic system.

I'm surprised the tech that replaced the cat did not catch this.

Later vehicles equipped with EFI did not need the thematic system as the fuel air mix could be controlled tightly enough that there would not be enough un-burnt hydro carbons in the exhaust to damage the cat.

The thermatic system always seems to be the first thing to be disabled, ironically it is one of the systems that has basically zero impact on HP or fuel economy short of the 1 or 2 HP (if that) it takes to spin the pump.

Neither of these emissions systems (thematic or Cat Con) measurably impact on horse power or fuel economy (short of air flow restriction from the cat). In fact the only emissions system that really impacts HP and fuel economy is the EGR as it directly affects combustion during the power stroke
