Noisy steering

I've recently noticed a low moaning sound coming from my steering column only when I turn the wheel. (This is on my '78 Ranger XLT.) Common sense tells me this is a warning sound. Anyone have experience with such issues on this model?

Most likely that is your power steering pump growling. For starters, check for a burn smell of the power steering fluid, as well as making sure it's full.

Changing the fluid could help. What does it look like? BTW you should run ATF in the PS pump.
