Went up to Wichita, KS Wednesday. 70-80 mph, all highway (Straight up IH35). 600 miles on cruise and used a little less than 3/4 tank. Gauge said 21 mpg but it has shown to be 3 mpg optimistic. So 18 mpg or so.

The new head unit worked very well with the exceptions noted above already. BT and WiFi hotspot connectivity working. IGO nav and Google Nav working. Radio working and BT streaming music both from phone stored media and streaming from IHHeartRadio. Sounds excellent to my untrained and hard of hearing ears. I still need to test things with the phone functions. Sound quality is excellent both ways, once connected. Waiting on the slow boat from China for their OBDII dongle. I like being able to connect to my home WiFi from my driveway and get apps/updates/downloads.

Temps in Wichita dropped to 7F (-22F wind chill). Engine start was a little slower and noisier for 5 or ten seconds. I noticed if you didn't touch anything in park for a while, it went to fast idle at 1000rpm or so. Touch the brake and it would drop back down. Mishimoto thermostat was nice to have in. Reached 100F in a short time and had some heat. Great heat when it got to temperature.

Tony's headlights came in while I was gone. I need to find a DIY and read it. Haven't got the fogs yet. Probably just read up while waiting for the fogs to arrive.

I need to get new tires.

Very nice- I think you have me sold on that Joying head unit- are you using a bluetooth mic or the one that comes with it if you are connected with your phone? Thank you!

 

There is a mic on the unit itself in the upper left corner of the face. There is also a wired mic included which I have connected and is placed at the headliner to the left of the visor. I am very happy with the unit so far.

I am getting ready to order the same head unit. What else should i get from Joying at the time of order? Ford wiring harness? What mounting kit works with Excursion? Camera? OBDII dongle? Any suggestions are welcomed.

Get everything from them as I think 2 of the 3 are proprietary. Dash, backup cams and the OBDII dongle. No mounts needed at all it just snugly slides right in after the little trimming needed. Metra has the wiring harness for the truck. Steering buttons are programmable in the head unit itself so no adapter needed either. GPS antennae comes in the box. They say mine needs an update and it is available here for the unit I have:

I installed my new joying unit yesterday. Ordered it with the metra harness, ford removal tool and a Auto-vox cam 1 HD camera with led. Easy install and everything works except illumination to the keys down the left side.
Without pulling it back out and looking I'm sure I hooked it up if the harness had a matching wire. If not, what wire should I hook it to? A keyed on power wire?

Did you get the HID's mounted? I am about to get mine done and was wondering how you feel about them?

 

Got them in this weekend. High beam and low were reversed but Tony just responded with the fix. Swap the outside wires in the blue plug of the harness. Will do that Wednesday. Then some aiming. Both fogs and lights are working very well, just need to swap those wires and aim now. I will get some pics once that is done. Thanks to Nicmike here for all the "help" (he really did most/all of it). Battery/cable/alt upgrade as well.
