all excursions not created equal

just finished a 2000 excursion, from all i have read, all excursions were cali emission with a glow plug controller. this one had a gpr!

also it had the same rear axle as my early '99 truck with one brake caliper in the rear and one in the front.
also no heated mirrors, no heated seats, rear view mirror is the same as my '97's just a plain mirror.

Just by coincidence there is a big discussion on this going on in another thread, could maybe use your input
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nstant-on.html

(the discovery of a glow plug relay starts at post #52)

Early 2000 model Excursions utilized a glow plug relay with a shunt on it. The PCM is able to monitor both banks of glow plugs through that. The PCM for these Excursions is a DPC-432. It is the same PCM used in most California model 1999 trucks.

Late 2000 through 2003 models utilized the glow plug control module (GPCM). This device replaced the relay and shunt, but served the same purpose. The PCM used in the 2000-2001 models is a DPC-452, and the PCM used in 2002-2003 models is a DPC-492. These are the same PCM's used in the California model trucks of the same years. Really the only difference in the programming is the addition of PATS to the Excursion's.

Well 'fixer' yours is the 4th one I have heard of now. Mine has a GPR as well. Thanks for info Justin, I thought I had a unicorn excursion all this time.

Maybe I was misinformed!

And again I'll state, there are NO California model 7.3L PSD Excursions. ALL 7.3L PSD Excursions are the same, UNLIKE the F250/F350 7.3L PSD trucks.

Those trucks had California prepped models that included a GPCM instead of a GPR.

No problem. We have tuned a bunch of Early 2000 model Excursions with the GP relay and shunt. Not a unicorn by any means.

Technically, all Excursions are California model vehicles. They use the same PCM hardware as the Cali trucks, and use the same engine components.

Nope, not just you. I've almost concluded, especially now with this thread and Justin's info, that the exact same thing Cody always fights against (Internet "facts") has been exposed.

@Justin@DP-Tuner, do you have production build dates for when the DPC-432 PCM was used in the Excursion?

Unfortunately, I do not. I have also seen early 2000 model Excursions have a DPC-452 PCM, so I do not even know if Ford had a certain date span they used the DPC-432 PCM in them.

Well heck, at least part of the "information" we've handed down from generation to generation (LOL) was PARTLY correct.

While some of the first Excursions off the line were created as unicorns and came with GPR's instead of GPCM's, the part of the information that was correct was: Unlike the F-Series trucks, there was no "California equipped" 7.3L PSD. They were all 50 state legal.
