just installed new pressure plate, clutch kit in my '52 F1, 3 speed., 239 Flat head. It is a stock truck with no modifications.
Looking thru the inspection plate, the throw-out bearing face is about 3/8" of an inch from PP fingers.
With the adjust yoke all the way to the end of the adjustment rod, it just doesn't do it.
I have read that the adjustment rod should be 5 1/2" L is this correct? and anyone verify that. The adjustment rod that I have is 4 1/2".
Any help would be appreciated.
My original adjustment rod is the bottom one in the photo. The PO cut and welded a piece in the middle of it to lengthen it or to repair it.
In my locating another used one I found two more that were cut and welded with a piece in the middle too.
I found the top one in the photo and it is going in my truck.
They are approx. 6 1/2" center to center.

ps. I can measure more accurately if you want, these parts are on the shelf.
The release rod on my 52 is a threaded rod with an 'eye' on the end, as shown in the parts book..............the style you have does it come from a latter year '53 and newer?
"With the adjusting yoke all the way to the end it just doesn't do it" - I'm not sure what that means. If you have 1-1/2 to 2" of free pedal the clutch is adjusted about right. If it's not disengaging & you're out of adjustment there could be accumulated wear in the clutch pedal pivot, linkage eyes & pins, & the pivot of the arm (don't know the proper name) on the frame rail, & the throw out shaft through the bell housing.
I've had a number of well used trucks, never had this problem tho.
Does the end of your rod look like it has been sawn off?
I'm still confused; are you out of adjustment & have excessive free pedal, thus the clutch won't disengage? Also are the pressure plate bolts tight? As the pressure plate is drawn down the fingers raise toward the throw out bearing.
the pressure plate fingers on this new (and the old pressure plate) when removed from the flywheel lie against the "frame" of the pressure plate.
As you bolt it in place, the fingers move downward toward the clutch and away from the throw out bearing.
Well, 2 months later...............
I found the problem..a national autoparts store website for a replacement clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing........... it is one of those 'Advanced" auto parts store.
after weeks of trying to figure it out, I bought and original rebuilt pressure plate and low and behold the problem........
when you set the 2 on a flat surfaces, pressure plate face down and measure the distance from the "fingers" to the bench top, the 'new style' fingers were .200 lower that the original.....well that is damn near a 1/4"! No wonder we can't adjust the clutch....
At a quick glance they look identical...............but there was problem.......
when one got out the tape measure..........
