Truck died after refeuling?

I gased up my truck today, and topped it off. I started down the road, and it died on me. Re started it, and got a little further down the road, and it tried to die again, lost power, and surged foward.

Does anyone know what could be the problem??? I've topped of before in other cars, and my last ranger with no problem.

Thanks

The fuel filter may be clogged or you may have gotten Bad Gas. You may have low voltage on your fuel pump as well as a bad relay.

Good Luck

Sounds like a dirty fuel filter to me too.

Well I sure hope the filter is clogged. The truck was bought new in march.. This has happened one other time about a month after having it, leaving a diffterent gas station.

What did you do to fix it then?
You haven't recently changed fuel caps have you? Maybe to a locking type. Be sure to check your fuel cap. I am not sure if it is supposed to be vented or not. If you leave it a little loose does this fix the problem?

I did nothing to fix the problem. It almost died the first time. Lost power, then surged.

Nothing has been changed. Still the stock fuel cap, and I tighten it till it stops. Other than that I have no idea.

It might be the fuel filter. On my old Exploder, for some reason if i didn't run premium at Texaco, it would hesitate. For some reason neither of them like Arco for some reason. It cheap gas. But the fuel filter would be the easiest solution to this problem. I would also check the relay out too.

How much fuel did you try to squeeze in it. I bet you filled your EVAP system with fuel. When the system try’s to purge some vapor into the intake, it's probably getting raw fuel and over fueling the motor?

I would go with goose's idea, thats why you don't top off your tank, you can damage inportant parts of your fuel system.

Sounds like either bad gas causing a clogged filter or a faulty fuel pump/relay. As far as topping off the tank goes - Ford recommends that you allow "three automatic click offs when filling" (pg192 2000 Ranger Owner's Manual). I've never done that before until I bought my Ranger and I haven't had any problem with my Ranger stalling.

Since it happend to you one time before, I would lean towards the fuel pump/relay.

I hope you figure out the problem. Nothing worse than problems with a new vehicle.
