"Tips on replacing a hood?" is the title of this thread .

How about how to straighten it once it's on?
The previous owner said the latch failed while driving, so I replaced the hood, cowl, and Springs that hold the hood up, now I'm thinking I should have replaced the hinges as well.
Looks like there is a gap between the hood and cowl, and the latch mating with the hood is not quite right.
I wish I could help you out man, but I'm not exactly a body guy.
But if the hood came unlatched while the PO was driving it then the springs are most likely bent or twisted. I would grab some good springs just to rule them out.

Yup, I replaced the springs that hold the hood up with the ones that were attached to the hood I grabbed from the yard, works fine now, one of the previous Springs was pretty loose and just fell apart after I removed it from the truck.
I think I have to play with the hinges to get it to sit right.
Before I replaced them, the hood could not stay up unless it was fully opened.
It's trial and error on realigning a hood, took me about a hour to get mine correct.
Make sure the hood hold ups are not missing on the core support at the corners of the hood. I had one missing(corner lower than fender) and that caused most of my issues on realigning the hood.

My apologies, I'm not great at taking words sometimes and visualizing their meaning.
How are supports on the corner of the hood lower than the fender...?
There are four pieces coming in contact with the hood, two bolts each.
The hinges x 2, and the springs x 2, I'm assuming the springs are the hood hold ups?
These are the hold ups I had issues with, when I replaced my 89's hood.
That one was missing and caused the hood not to to "level out" with the fenders.
It is a trial and error to get these hoods aligned, now if there was no engine in the way, it would be easy. Close the hood down and have some one watch how things align up while your adjusting the hinges bolts.
I'm a mechanic, not a bodyman, but here's how I do them.
Unbolt + remove the latch (just let it dangle below where it should be mounted) get a friend, and loosen the 4 bolts holding the hood onto the hinges, and make all your gaps how you want them, and line up the hood with fenders. It can take 3 minutes, or 30 minutes. You'll need to tweak and snug, check, and repeat. Once you've got it where you want, tighten those bolts.
Now make sure the rubber stops at the front keep it at the height you want the hood at when closed, they should turn in and out.
Once your hood is where you want, reattach the latch and keep repositioning it and closing the hood until it closes exactly how you want.
Hopefully this helps you out, and if you still can't get it all to work, chances are something is a bit tweaked from the incident.
Once you have it lined up the way you want it, drill an 1/8 hole through the hinge into the hood. This will help to align it should you take it off again for body work, painting, etc.

Or, you could just spray a little paint around the heads of the bolts. Instead of putting a hole in a perfectly good hood; which will rust if you don't paint it anyway.
