Frustrated

Decided to change my oil today. The dealer had done all of the oil changes prior. Move truck to yard and crawl under being not sure what to find for a drain plug. Read on this forum about some type of plastic thing. I have a regular drain plug. Go to shed to get ratchet set and start taking drain plug off. Broke nice and easy but started to get harder the more I removed it. Had to use the wrench it with two hands to take the plug off. By this time I am really using some choice words about the dealer. There is no way a drain plug should be this hard to take off. Once off, I notice that the threads are messed up. Take plug to dealer and ask service guy what is wrong here? He says looks like pulled threads. They see that all the time he said. I told him that I never seen that with a drain plug before and I did all the maintenance on my old truck and that they won't see any of my vehicles for maintenance again. It looked to me that it was cross threaded. Well I left the dealer with a new $11 drain plug. Is this something new with drain plugs these days or did the flunky that changed my oil last time do something wrong?

Never had that issue - sounds like it was cross threaded the last time it was put in.

The plastic plug was only on 2011 trucks - I actually liked it better than the traditional one.

Did you get to take an oil bath? That is where my kids learn lot of new 4 letter words. Hasn't happened in a while (thankfully).

Yea on the oil bath. I have a large pan and it shot right over the top. How hard could it have been to angle it down some when it was designed.

Milton, do yourself a favor and get an EZDrain valve to put in place of the drain plug. No more thread worries, and better yet, no more mess. Then get the extension nipple and you can drain it right into empty gallon jugs with a small piece of 3/8th inch tube.

Of course it was a flunky, who do you think gets the miserable job of doing oil changes? You really must do everything that you possibly can without the aid of flunkys.

My concern would be that the oil pan threads were damaged as well, and would insist that they provide you with a new one and another new oil plug. If you do keep using the old one, and a problem develops, oversize plugs should be available at a parts store.

Probably because the engineer who design the oil pan doesn't change his oil...

I'm sure than engineer is laughing his or her butt off every time they read about someone getting an oil bath.

I need to get an ezdrain or fumoto valve. I got used to not having one since they were not available for the 2011 year trucks so it wasn't on my mind this time used them before and liked them.
