MY F350 Crew Cab Lariat is 8 months old. Yesterday after an hour trip, I backed into a parking spot and the backup camera came on as usual. When I placed the selector lever in D to move forward the camera remained on. I moved the lever from Reverse to Drive several times, no change. I Turned the key to the off position and removed the key. No change, camera remained on. When the truck was running and in reverse the direction line on the camera screen did not change when I moved the steering wheel. I opened the driver door and the camera and radio remained on. Could not cut the radio off with the volume ****, but could adjust the sound. As I was about to get out to disconnect the battery the screen changed to light blue with the word SYNC and this sentence below: Sync routine maintenance. Not exactly sure if that was the exact wording but close. About 2 minutes later the system shut down and the radio turned off. I have the factory Navigation system in dash. Note: Only the radio and camera display screen were on when I removed the Key, no other gauges. Called dealership and they had never heard of that before. Anyone have an answer?
If you google that, you'll see that it appears to be quite common, with no apparent solution.
I have a 2011 F350 with the sync/nav, but I have never had it go wacky on me.
I got a 2016 Edge for my son earlier this year. First day I drove it, the engine shut off on me - luckily I was going slow in a parking lot. It gave me a message "full accesory mode" (or something like that). It started right up again, and I haven't had the problem since. I googled it, and saw that it too was a common problem.
I guess it's just something we have to live with when autos are mainly computers nowadays.

jrclark6,
The "performing scheduled maintenance" is a normal message to appear on the screen, however, it shouldn't affect the camera and SYNC system. What software is currently installed in the truck: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html
Thanks for the help. Checked and my Sync is up to date according to Ford Owner Site. SYNC2-V3.8 EA5T-14D544-AD. I had updated it in March 2016. Just caught me off guard. Could not find any information by google. I had a concern it might be a potential problem.

I understand. If you have any other questions or concerns, I'm only a a post away!
I have not had this happen to my 2016 yet. If there is an update out there, does Ford automatically push the update over the air to the truck? Or, do you have to manually download the update on a jump drive and do it manually from your truck?

WyoBull,
The scheduled maintenance message is not a software update message. Software updates are installed separately and you'll be notified of an update in your SYNC account.

Cara,
Is there a problem with the ford owner site? I have been trying to log in all day and all I am getting is an error message. I have been registered since I got my truck and have logged in many times but today, to can do.

Great! I'm only a message away if you ever have any questions or concerns

This time I was using Navigation. Navigation screen remained on but did not update. Same Sync Screen came up with message Performing routine maintenance. After a few minutes went back to normal operation and Navigation refreshed with updated screen. Luckily I was on the interstate and did not need to make an exit or turn.
