Sport Trac electric brake and harness question
Hi All,
2004 Trac with factory tow package and current 4 pin flat wiring for lighting.
I need to wire up for using electric brake equipped trailer ...looks like everyone really likes the Kenosha Prodigy ...but, I have found info that says I should have a brake controller connector plug under the dash ...other places say Tracs do not have this but Explorers did.
Anyone been through this dance?

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy 3 and really like it. I had a standard brake controller in the past and never got it where I liked how it applied the brakes on the travel trailer. With the Prodigy, it works excellent. The accelerometer-based gain is amazing.
As for if the sport track has the wiring or not, about I can suggest there is to have a look. It may be taped up to another harness above the accelerator pedal, or it may be taped to another harness above the glove box, on the left side. You'll need to drop the glove box door down to see it if it's on that side. It's a gray 2-row connector, something like 6 pins.

Ended up getting the DrawTite I Command proportional controller and an installation kit from etrailer ...good instructions and a great video from an install on a 2003 Trac. I Command very small and the Trac is pretty tight along right leg area so good solution. Also about half price of the Tekonsha proportional controller.
Installation a pita but simple ...proportional controller worked very well and offers lots of adjustment for empty and loaded trailer. I just used a connection clip for the brake signal wire to controller circuit ...no issues. The kit had a 7 pin cone to bracket ...Running the main power cable from the bracket to the battery area and through the provided circuit breakers not difficult.
