I have a 96 f250 with a 5.8 that I am replacing. I need to put the lower intake back on the rebuilt engine. The new engine came with a gasket set that included the head to intake ports but nothing for the lower manifold to engine block. It appears there is no gasket between this portion. When disassembled there was black silicone as the gasket. Is this standard procedure or am I missing a couple of gaskets? Thanks in advance for your views.
Many gasket kits include a cork gasket for the lower intake to block mating surface. Throw them away and use good silicone or it will leak oil at those locations.
Cut some 5/16ths bolts down to make some studs & place at front & back of heads. Place the gaskets on the heads & place the intake down without silicon. Get an idea of the gap you need to fill before running a bead down the front & back "China wall" of the block/intake valley. Just barely touch the edge of the gaskets where the "wall" ends. After you do, wait about a half hour to let the silicon set up a bit placing the manifold down for good. Pull the studs out & tighten innermost bolts first, then in a circular pattern out ward.
