What i normally do for oil changes on any old diesel engine is; Get it up to normal operating temperature, shut it down, add a quart of diesel fuel to the oil, then run for 5 minutes, shut down and drain overnight from pan and filter. gets it to stay cleaner after the first run. Works for dump trucks tractors etc. Just an idea if you want a "cleaner" looking oil, but otherwise i really wouldn't worry.
ya goes dark pretty quickly I use moble 1- 601 filter (its a power stroke filter) it employs a duel stage filtration, and is larger than a Idi filter, fits most aplications (11 quarts) oil.
