95 f150 302 5 speed
comp cams 35-255-5
crane 444232
which would you choose an why?
im thinking crane cause it comes with lifters for about the same price...what doyall think?
would 1.7 rockers make a difference with either one of those cams?
The Crane 444232 is a flat tappet cam and your block is a roller block, no way would I go from a roller to a flat tappet. I don't know about the other cam I didn't look it up but if it's a flat tappet then its out too in my opinion. I think you would be better off getting a stock Explorer cam with the 1.7 rockers than going to flat tappets. Your truck may already have that cam in it I am not positive on that though. Conanski is your man when it comes to cams and I'm sure he will chime in.
im signing onto this thread, because im looking at buying a cam for my 91 with a 302. i was going to be going with the comp 31-255-5, but the fact that it doesnt come with lifters suddenly concerns me.
Bootlegger.. Your motor is flat tappet so lifters aren't expensive, just search for the 31-255-5 cam and lifter combo pack.
Rigsboo. What are your goals with your truck? A '95 should be MAF just look at the air intake tubes, do you have 2 separate tubes from the airbox to the motor or does it come off the airbox in 1 larger tube and then Y into 2 tubes on the way to the motor?
Nothing serious at all im doing some gasket repairs and a new clutch and i figure i may do a cam swap while its out...just want some more torque and better powerband...its 2 hoses...i did some reading thats speed density right? Some other things i read was that really limits my cam options cause mass air would be better

I just pulled my engine last weekend for the same things, gaskets, new clutch, and replace a rusty oil pan. within 48 hours, the "might as wells" just had me strip it down to the short block and go ahead to order a new comp cam ( literally just hung up the phone, it's on it's way )
"might as wells" are what the greatest hopes and biggest shattered dreams are made of. good luck man, i hope it turns out well for you. like i said, after looking and conversing with an expert, i decided to go with the Comp Cam.

A 1995 F150 w/5L engine should be MAF....
There should be a MAF sensor attached to the output side of the airbox:
Not all 95 were MAF it was a switch over year for Ford, basically the way I always understood it is the early productions were SD and later were MAF as they had to be switched by 96 for government regulations. I have seen them both ways as I have searched for a junk 95 with OBD1 and MAF so I could swap my 91 to MAF but haven't found all the right combos together yet.
As Conanski said we need to know (or I should say he needs to know cause he is a cam genius) what you plan to do with truck. Are you going to be towing with it, a little fun drag racing, what you want to do with truck will tell what cam to use.

1994 was the switch over to MAF for 5L equipped trucks. I have never heard of a 1995 F150 with a 5L engine and Speed Density. Not to say it did not happen, but very rare IMHO.
F250HD/F350 stayed mostly Speed Density until they were phased out. The only MAF F250HD/F350s I am aware of are California emission 7.5L gas engine trucks starting in late 1995. These were OBD-II like the F150/Bronco.
Like i said im not looking for anything serious...the truck is my daily...may do a little hauling here and there...just looking for something that goes well through out the powerband...its not gonna be a drag or street and strip by no means...maybe get headers and a plenum spacer in the future but thats about it
