Dome light and door lock reversed!?
Today I purchased a 2002 f250 GAS super duty 5.4. The first thing I've noticed wrong is: THE DRIVER DOOR DOESNT LOCK WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL BUT THE PASSENGER DOOR DOES. I also noticed: WHEN I SHUT THE DRIVER DOOR, THE DOME LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON BUT WHEN I OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR, IT SHUTS OFF (as if something's reversed). Do you think these two situationd are related, and how can I fix it?

thanks for replying....I can't imagine why the latch would need to be replaced in the first place....is it a common thing to replace on 2002 f250's with 158k miles? maybe it was broken into?

can you tell me if its the ACTUATOR you're referring to or the mechanical latch? I'm confused

Today I took my door apart!
-I took out the latch, which includes the ACTUATOR and the DOOR JAMB SWITCH. The door jamb switch works ok...when I press it in, it simulates the door is "closed". Letting go of it, and the door is "open" (dome lights come on). So the switch is doing its job. However, thanks to your replies, ford DID change these switches in 2002 (year of my truck). So I'm speculating the hillbilly that owned my truck before me must have put in the wrong year. I ordered one feom Oreillys for about $28 (cheaper than I found on ebay) and I can't wait to see if its opposite to mine!
-However, it could be another problem! the track on the door latch that activates the switch is WORN. It works by bumping the switch nub IN when the latch is closed and out when the latch is open. I'm thinking that could be culprit #2. Perhaps it so worn that its making the switch do the opposite....but I'm betting it's the wrong year switch. We'll see tomorrow.
The latch is the correct year. I verified it with two sources online. I found one on ebay for $50. Dealer wanted $64. I also need an actuator which is on ebay for about $11. I don't see the use of fixing it for so cheap. I'll be ordering a latch if the switch isn't working too well.

MYSTERY SOLVED! The switch WAS indeed the wrong year! Now its the opposite....the switch goes IN to shut the dome off and OUT to turn it on. I went ahead and ordered a new latch because of the worn track, and a new actuator because I needed one anyway (auto lock wouldn't work). Thanks everyone for all your help! That's one less thing to fix.
