I have check engine code about misfire in cylinder 4, i have changed spark plugs and ignition wires, after that i reset ECU and was not getting code again, however engine vibrates on idle randomly and cannot hold steady idle RPM, i assumed it was a idle valve issue.
Was driving on freeway for a while at 70 miles per hour however misfire code did not come on, but after taking car to smog shop i had it back, why is that?
I am considering cleaning injectors next, but i'd need to know which exact cylinder on the engine is number 4?
What year is your Explorer? Was the code P0304 or something different? Are you absolutely certain you got all of the spark plug wires securely installed? Did you buy the bargain wires from a local parts store, or spend a bit extra for a higher quality set? I've seen cheap wires that were crimped but the wire core wasn't even exposed/connected to the end.
Often the lack of a steady RPM is due to a vacuum leak after the MAF sensor. Do you hear evidence of a vacuum leak?
It burns a lot of fuel, however fuel trims normal tested for vacuum leak with cigarette smoke and found no leak.
Used Denso wires and NGK spark plugs from rockauto.
Yeah code P0304
when i swapped plugs all were original motorcraft except one in cylinder 4 was a champion so i assume this issue was a while back and someone tried to fix it by swapping that plug.
i noticed spark plugs tips on driver side of engine were somewhat dry and orange and on passenger side of engine are wet black what does it signify?
Interesting, cylinder #4 spark plug appears to have the best burn. The ones that are black and wet from the passenger side would suggest those three cylinders are running really rich.
#4 is the first cylinder on the driver's side. These engines are notorious for the cylinder heads cracking. With that many miles I would look at that first.
Cracking in where exactly cylinder head or long block itself?
I got new PCV valve as i found oil in coolant maybe this will fix it a little bit, however its mew PCV valve is leaking little bit of air when i blow in it, isn't it supposed to seal completely?
I am adding about half gallon (distilled water) per hour drive or so. Also i see oil in the coolant (water) i have suspicion its transmission fluid because now my transmission went from full level to low in about 1000 miles. I could change radiator its just $110 bucks for new aftermarket one.
Is there some test i can do to make sure radiator failed?
