Please help. I am having issues with my truck.
I am running a 2008 Ford F-250 with the DPF Delete and the Mini Maxx Tunner
I have replaced the ECT (Engine Coolant Temp Sensor) as well as the EGR Valve and housing troubleshooting this issue. Both the Engine light and the coolant icon come on when I turn on the vehicle. I am getting a P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Low code on the Mini Maxx. From a cold start with codes cleared if I turn the engine to ON even without starting the engine the Engine codes will come on and the the Mini Maxx will read engine coolant temp 302 and will go into Defueling Mode. I have repeatedly tried removing and reattaching the connector to the ECT thinking it could be loose connection. I can't drive the truck because there is no power and i know the engine is not hot because I have let it sit all night before doing these tests. I do not have a scanner to test other than the Mini Maxx.
Other notes:
I have checked Coolant
I have checked Oil
Use your multimeter and measure the sensor's cold resistance. If it's between 30K and 60K and the engine is between 50 and 75°F, the sensor is okay but you have either a wiring concern or a damaged input to the PCM.
With a displayed temp of 302 (F or C???,probably doesn't matter), you likely have a short circuit to ground, either on the ECT signal wire to the PCM or internally to the PCM. A couple of simple resistance checks should identify the section of the circuit you need to focus on.
Definitely a short of some sort. During the time I was trying to test for a short I pulled on the harness enough to accidentally resolve the short. After consistently reporting the defueling error when I plugged the ECT back in the engine started normally. I didn't have time to get all the readings yesterday but I now know that's the issue. I will have to spend time tinkering with the harness later so I can track down where the short is otherwise it's going to rear it's head at some point when I really don't want it to.
