Ok so here here goes I have a 1999 f250 super duty with 5.4 triton it seems to be over heating but the gage stays in the normal operating temperature range. I just changed the water pump. Could it be the thermostat and Would it hurt to remove the thermostat until I can get one
Make sure when you replaced water pump there are no air pockets in the cooling system. Then when the motor is cool, try to turn the fan by hand, there should be some resistance, if not replace the fan clutch. You can test the thermostat by putting it in a pan of water with a thermometer. Place on the stove and start heating the water. Around during 190 degrees you should see it open.
