Manual Choke Setup

I have a carter ibbl carb that the choke piston is binding up, so the auto choke wouldnt work and now its still hard for the manuall choke to moke on acount of getting stuck. My question is can i remove the linkage to the choke piston since i have a manual setup so that i can operate the butterfly correctly.See picture

no ideas? i believe its just a pull off for the choke plate, i'm just wondering if it will it mess up the fast idle and they way it comes off.
