Hi guys,
I saw some old posts on efi. But no current posts about it. I have a 390 fe that I'm building as a driver. Mild cam and headers. I'm keeping the granny 4 spd. in it. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars to make it fast. I want it to be reliable and fun. Maybe gain a few mpg. on the way. I know little about carbs. I'm more of a fi guy working for Volvo for 20 years. So I'm planning out this 390 motor and cost wise I found this fuel injection kit by affordable fuel injection for $1000. It looks like a great deal on paper. I spoke with a person there today and he sold me on it. For the price of a carb. and 4 barrel manifold with electronic distributor being $1500 give or take. I could have this set up for $1200. Keeping in mind the gas we have here in NJ, probably half ethanol, and the rebuild kits for the carb. in the future, this looks good. Has anyone used one of these? Do you like it? If not, what did you go with?
This is a kit you can buy or you can scavenge the local jy for the most of the parts and make it yourself. Yeah, I know it's Gm parts but you want cheap and it works.
exactly, new parts, i don't have to piece it together, prewired, put it in. I'm not looking for a 1200 hp setup for $4000. But does it work good? They set it up with your specs. cam set up, engine size, exc... It doesn't learn as your drive.
Seems like a lot of people are trying the new FiTech with good results, also at the $1000 range. Their system learns as you go. Other than the two I have mentioned, looks like you will be dishing out the $2000 plus for any other kit like MSD, Edelbrock, etc, etc. Good luck and keep us posted with however you go.
Do those kits give you everything you need? Assume you need to weld in a bung for an O2 sensor. Do they come with the high pressure fuel pumps, and do our dual tank switches handle the higher pressures of an electric EFI pump?
Avoid the ones like a plague if it uses the old-school GM TBI. You'll spend more time and money getting it to work than the well-engineered EFI systems offered by Holley/MSD, Edelbrock, FAST, and Quick Fuel.
Btw, the Edelbrock E-Street 2.0 can interface with an app on your phone.
Did you install junkyard system or the affordable fuel injection one?
D-Rat,
The FI tech setup fuel pump etc. all comes separate as far as I know. In fact they just came out with a high pressure tank that you can mount under the hood. It's like $400 though.
