I have a 65 F-100 two wheel drive with a C-6 automatic transmission and 3:70 rear end and a 360 FE engine. Some day I hope to make it a 390 but for now I will have to settle for a 360. Right now I have a 750 CFM Holley with vacuum secondary on top of a Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold, a mild RV cam it I do not have the cam card anymore for exact specs, headers and MSD 6AL Box with Mallory electronic conversion kit in the distributor. Other wise everything else on the engine is stock for a 69 F-100 360.
My question is I am interested in installing fuel injection more for drivability than anything. I have look at either a 670 CFM system from Holley that is a stand alone system with no adjusting except for idle, or a 650 4BBL system from Holley that you can use a lap top to control all settings.
What would your opinion be for either system or leaving the crab on?
Your first problem is you are way, way over carbureted. If you reved that poor weak rods 360 to 6000 rpm you would only need a 625 CFM carb. To need a 750 would mean reving to 7200 and 6000 is a sure way to throw a rod out of that motor, much less 7200.
As for EFI, the same air flow numbers apply, use the 650 system and take advantage of the adjustably.
Has anyone out there put fuel injection on their FE engine? It is a fair amount of money to purchase the system and just wanted to know if it was worth it. I have been kicking that idea around or buying a mid 90's ford pickup with a 302 or 351 for cheap and transplanting the whole engine/transmission and electronics into my old pickup. Thanks, for the info.
You will only get 2 to 3MPG Top's out of it! And the expense is a BIG killer. I'm not trying to discourage you from doing it but I want to put the facts out there! So please don't take this to hart now........
You may want to check into Mega-squirt if it was me. If you bought a TBI from a Chebby then the cost would be about $1,200 for everything and the Tune-ability of the Mega-squirt is soooo much better.
I was going to put one on my 460 until I found out that my mileage wasn't going to increase all that much. So I opted to throw a 6.9IDI Diesel with a ATS Turbo on it. So going from 5mpg to 15-20MPG is a BIG jump for me.
There is a guy off that did a Mega-squirt on his! He loves it and bought his TBI used off of E-Bay and spent around $1,200 for his set-up! Just my 2 cents is all. JMHO
