Hi gang - so I had a rear flat last night, and had to use the scissors jack. It was not clear from the owners manual exactly where to position it. I had to put underneath the rear swing and it was really difficult to turn it, but we finally got it raised enuf to chg the tire. I am home now, and looking and it is STILL not clear. If I put it on as pictured, it does not go high enough to raise the tire.I am going to start carrying a bottle jack in addition to the scissors as well as a block to put under it, but I should not have to do this. Has anyone used the scissors jack on the rear? See attached print from the owners manual.
I have not tried it but it should work on level ground. Make sure both sway bar links are attached. I like knowing that the scissor jack can't slip out as it is captured. Perhaps a block of wood under the jack would help to get the vehicle higher.
Davetv, you did find the lug that protrudes down from the unibody, right? The top of the jack has a recess that the lug is supposed to fit into, keeping the jack in place. If you are on level ground, you should have enough travel in the jack to raise the tire at least 1" off the ground. The illustration in the manual is not that clear, but I think it suggests reaching in from in front of the rear tire to access the jacking point. That would mean the handle was forward of the rear wheel when you are turning the jack screw.
I learned to read in 1st grade, along with the alphabet and numbers. That was a long time ago, so I REALLY like word instructions more than illustrations and 'suggestive' drawings that just don't show beans worth of detail. It is a decision by some artist or middle manager that it looks more 'modern' to have pictures rather than words, but they don't bother getting GOOD pictures.
I wanna see them pull out the manual, and use that as the SOLE instructions. In the rain, on muddy roads, when the moon is NOT out, and it is midnight. Especially dressed to go to the 'executive' ball.... HA.

THX, I will have another look when I am under there. But for the short term, I am carrying a bottle jack and some blocks in an old gym bag just in case..
