Mirrors

Will the mirrors go in even farther than what they are in most of the pics that you see? what i mean is, when you look at them, from the slides, it looks like they would slide in another 3 or 4 inches to the thicker part of the base, if that makes sense. Im sure this is as far as they go or i would have seen a few pushed in more, but i thought id ask. It would help when going through tight spaces.

And what I don't like is they WILL NOT fold in while in D. So if you come up to a place where you think you need the space, you have to put it in park, pull in the mirrors and then put it back in drive.

That's weird that yours don't. Mine do, I use it all the time.

Thanks. I didnt know if they went all the way in untill they got to the thick base part. I dont know why they didnt design them to. theres really no need in them sticking out that far while your driving empty around town.
I think with the GM Hd, you can even get regular mirrors like the half tons, if you didnt need the bigger tow ones.

In order for the mirrors to go in farther the shafts would have to be shortened and then overall stretch would be reduced. I kind of like the stance they take when retracted and even better being able to see around the camper or wide trailer. Part of the towing and hauling is being fully capable of providing us with the tools we need to accomplish the task safely.

For those driving dually's: with the mirrors retracted, your truck width at the mirrors is the same as at your hips. If the mirrors will fit, your hips will fit...generally speaking.

I noticed that the optional F-150 tow mirrors, are a little different shape and dont stick out quite as far as the SD mirrors. Probably not a big difference, but if its 2 to 3 inches on each side, that would help people like me that can barely fit through some gates and garages. I might see if i can talk the dealer into swapping out as part of the deal.

And the F150 mirrors are auto dimming (drivers side only). Mine are not. Why can we not have this feature, again!

I think they look better too, more streamlined. Ive been checking, and from what i understand, is they are plug and play if you swap them, but the mirrors you put on must have the same features as the one you are taking off. For example if you have defrost, telescoping, spotlights ect. The new one must have exactly the same stuff too, or the plug ends wont match up.

Do the 150 mirrors power telescope, too?

Yes they do, but maybe not as far out as the SD.

Thanks. I won't be switching thanks to driving a wide hip truck, but the connection wouldn't match anyway because of the auto dim function, I wouldn't think. The outside mirror gets it signal to dim from the rear view mirror.

I'll have to do more checking about the auto dim. If they wont match then, i probably wont be getting them either.
