I've seen the us general kits didn't fit out trucks. But according to harbor freight there is a Pittsburg kit for about 30. Says fits ford etc etc. I'm not sure if it's the same kit as before or if it's changed since then. Any ideas? I really don't want to spend 100+ on a kit right this second
There is a big price difference haha one kit is 30. The others over 100. I'm assuming the 30 is the one that doesn't work because of the glow plug adapter. I really didn't want to spend the money to use it once. I just got the truck and want peace of mind the compression is ok. There's no blow by or loss of power but still a peace of mind to know the numbers
I bought the cheaper one several years ago.....but they only had the one at the time.
Was going to use it on my Mercedes diesels, and still thinking about using it.
With the MB`s, just remove the Hard lines and do ea Injector at a time,
or remove the GP`s and use the "L" fitting.
I stand staring at this 6.9 and the Octopus of hard lines. Looks like a total
PITA to work on.
Going through the Injector hole or GP hole the lines are in the way.
I have read to just tweek the line to one side and remove the Injector.
Removing the lines looks to be out of the question, the way the IP is made.
Iam not comfortable with slightly bending/tweeking the hard lines.
There must be some super gold plated Ford special tool for R&Ring the
lines off the IP.
The HF cheap kit has a glow plug adapter which is "supposed" to work according to the manual... but the thread tolerances are wrong, and it won't go in more than one or two threads.
You might be able to find a die and just re-thread it; IIRC it's 10MMx1.0, which isn't too common, but not impossible to get either.

The threads are right, the adapter just bottoms out in the pre-cup before the threads catch. Like i said above, i just shortened mine, and it works-- in theory anyway, got rained out and had to use the pickup the next day.

Well thats good to know! Thanks for the tip, I already have the cheap kit...
