I am not feeling any love from this 6 pig at all. Got a new IPR valve screen and O ring kit, pulled out the valve and the screen was plugged bad but not torn. Cleaned the valve, put it in the she started after about 7 seconds and sounded perfect. No hunting, just nice an smooth. Restarted her a couple times and all was great. Let her run up to temps , brought her up to 2000 rpm and all good. Then the low oil pressure warning comes up . I shut her down and checked all my connections. Nothing wrong and no leaks. Started her back up and I had good pressure for 5 seconds then nothing. Removed and cleaned the sending unit, cranked the engine with the unit out and no oil spewing out. Replaced sending unit and no indication of pressure at all .
So just to recap, I just replaced the head gaskets, EGR Delete done, new oil cooler, 12mm stand pipes and dummy plugs and resealed the IPR valve. I am at my wits end with this thing, any ideas folks.
If no oil came out of the pressure switch port,, you might not actually have base oil pressure. Time to run a magnet in the bottom of the oil filter housing. Then pull the low pressure regulator and look for scarring. Also check for oil while remote cranking the engine with the oil filter out. No need to hold down the drain back valve also,, if it's pumping,,, you will see it.
Btw,, is there oil IN the crankcase??? Meaning,, have you checked the oil?? Lol. Also,, calling this engine a "pig", won't get any friends round here. Most issues on this engine are caused by the owners.
Keeping in mind this is my first go round with a 6.0 everything is a learning curve. Like pull the IPR Valve and clean or replace screen when the turbo is off or any oil cooler work is been done. Got that one now. ALSO, I seen and heard to only run Ford filters, which I do anyway but never heard squat about that aftermarket cap. Previous owner ran aftermarket cap and filter, I replaced the filter and not the cap. So you all know what that means and now so the fk do I. Tall cap + stock filter means nothing to hold the drain back valve closed. So I need to run to Ford today to return the IPR socket they loaned me and while I am there I will grab a Ford short cap swap that in tonight. I had oil pressure right up till a brought up the RPM's last night so I think I am alright there and I shut her down immediately.
These are like everything else and take some time to learn their secrets I guess. Hopefully this will be it till I get it on the road and get some miles on her. I am still a couple weeks out from that . Still need to finish the body and paint her and then undercoat the crap out of it. Once again thanks for all the input. I will learn this thing eventually.
You guys won't believe this one, it's almost funny. I got the proper oil filter cap, truck fired right up again, oil gage goes to about half and 5 seconds later falls off to near nothing again. WTF? pulled the filter, cranked her over and lots of oil flow in the housing, cleaned the housing , checked the valve and that works perfect. More WTF? Pulled the sending unit, it checks ok. Started the truck , it runs perfect and I unhooked the wired on the sender to see if the gage moves at all and I have oil spewing out of the electrical side of the sender. SENDING unit is now fk'd. It's almost cruel to have it fail right after doing all this work. Like most, the first thought is what the hell did I do wrong or miss? Really, what are the chances that it would fail now? It had good pressure on the guage since I first started it last week, it just had the IPR issue and then the oil filter cap being wrong cause longer starts but I still had pressure . So now the sending unit decides this is a good time to say fk it. I have always liked and enjoyed doing my own work, been doing it for 30 years , but stuff like this makes me wish I became a lawyer so I could pay somebody else to deal with this stuff. Thanks for listening guys, hop someone got a chuckle out of this, thanks for the pointers again.
