Hi all me again, I have another question for you. I changed my oil a couple of weeks ago. Before the oil change the oil pressure showed on the gauge a little under the half way mark. I changed the oil and filter (used straight 30) and now my oil pressure is just a hair under the H. I thought maybe the sending unit was flakey so I changed it and it made no difference. Can anyone think of anything other than maybe a bad gauge that would cause this. Is there a check valve or ball in the oil filter housing? Mike
Thicker oil will increase your oil pressure to a point.
Most guys do this on older motors to make some oil pressure and take away the extra clearance from wear in the bearings. Then, as the thicker oil breaks down it will start to let the pressure drop back down to where it was before the oil change. Does it drop after the motor warms up?
The only true way to measure the pressure would be screw a std mechanical gage onto it. The factory gage is only good to let you know IF you have pressure, not how much you have.
