So I was changing the degas bottle cap to a stant one today after seeing powerstrokehelp's YouTube video and took a peak inside the degas bottle and saw that it was definitely low and looked a little dirty. Is that a problem that it's dirty? Which coolant should I add? I have attached some images of the degas bottle.
Really? I have no white smoke, truck runs fine, monitor the truck, coolant and oil temps look good to me. Coolant level is a little low because of a noob mistake a couple weeks ago, took off the degas bottle hose without releasing the pressure from the cap, cleaned the engine with coolant.
Not the EGR cooler. The Oil cooler is a heat exchanger right? Has coolant on one side and oil on the other. When the coolant side gets nasty and plugged up it ruptures. Mixing oil into the coolant.
Or it could be a cracked head around the injector cups. Does the coolant smell like diesel? Highly unlikely though!

Not sure the whole engine smells like diesel right now because changed my fuel filters today and put the seal in the wrong spot on the cap (previous O ring so beat up it tore its self off the cap when I loosened the cap). Diesel starting leaking everywhere from the cap, fixed and reassembled. I'll have to check on that though tomorrow when it dries.
Plug the coolant line take the degus out and give it a Thuro simple green flush , what coolant are you running ? Looks red
Ok I may just flush the coolant and put a new one because I actually don't know which coolant I am running. When I didn't know anything about this truck had Firestone do a coolant flush, not sure what they used. Maybe it is on the work papers. What's a good coolant to run?
It's hard to see if it's ford gold , if it is then do a thuro flush drop the block plugs , don't skimp on the distilled water flush after tap water flush, I run a rotella ELC , the two don't mix or play well so exstreamly important to do the flushes correctly, tractor supply has the best price on ELC .

I appreciate the help but I have no idea how to do all that. Any sources I can check to learn? And I doubt it's ford gold, if I have a local shop do it that does 6.0 work I'm sure they would do the work right, should I switch to ford gold or wait till my egr cooler goes then they will have to flush anyway.

In the tech folders is a great write up on correct flushing, most shops just do a dump and fill, it's really not that hard , the hardest part with out a lift is pulling block plugs , both sides as your laying on your back , it's hot coolant coming out in a hurry, and I'm not that fast anymore , some shops will do it if you stay on them , so what is the temp spread EOT vs ECT ?

Oh ok thanks! The spread is usually around 10 or so. Never have seen it close to 15. Although to be fair I have never seen it while towing as I just got the cts2.
Hmm 10 deg , are you ready for a new oil cooler? Chances are when the flush happens its going to plug more . Sorry I know you didn't want to hear that , your still in good shape , I would just get the degus clean , need to find the receipts on the coolant used . Just to get back to line with distilled water.

Ok I looked at the papers for the coolant flush. Khameleon coolant was used, made by safety Kleen. Is that bad or terrible? .
So your saying I will possibly need a new oil cooler soon? Right now truck is at 98k or so. And what do you mean about the distilled water thing?

Unless it's the HD version of that stuff it won't cut it, and even then I don't see anywhere on the website that states the HD has any kind of SCA's in the formulation.
I'm guessing the place that did your truck used the one size fits all approach.
