What are normal operating temps?

Coming from a 6.0, monitoring engine vitals is a must. So, I'm conditioned to watch gauges for any anomalies. For instance, the trans temp on my 06 stays in the 160-165 range when driving unloaded. The '14 runs about 195-200. Is that "normal"? I want to have a good baseline to start from. Also, can additional gauges be added to the screen instead of only oil and trans temp? I read about the dealer adding the DEF percentage. Can anything else be added? Do they need to be?

Thanks

DEF is all that can be added. For anything else you will have to get something that plugs into the OBD port.

I normally see about what you said for the tranny. Fully loaded heavy towing not much higher, maybe around 203-205.

Oil temp will start pushing a little. Usually around 200-210, as high as 248-250 without issue.

Move up to Alaska and drive around the winter. low tranny and oil temps then. When the tranny finally warms up I start to get better MPG.

In the "summer" I see the temps Senix has posted. (usually around 200F empty)

Oh and you will know when the temps get too high, first you will here the fan kick on and then you would see "reduced engine power" if they continue to get too high.

Transmission 196°-201°.

Oil 196°-203°, towing a trailer 210°-230° depending on speed and load.

There is a thermostat for the transmission cooler and you might find its open temp by doing some digging. My trans temp swings up and down a bit when I drive all day so there is some temp cycles going on.

I think there is only one person here that has successfully gotten the engine oil over 250°. Rare thing indeed. The cooling fan comes on around 240° and if you're pulling a long grade it will come on and bring the temp down quickly, even on hot summer days.

There is a radiator or cooler for every fluid and air that runs through the engine and transmission. I think the def and washer fluid are the only exceptions, maybe power steering too.
