Temps

If answered previously, I could not find it.

Dash gauges give oil temp and trans temp. What temp is too high for each?

Not had any problems that I'm aware of and we don't often get very high ambient temps. Just curious.

Oil temp should never exceed 250°. The cooling fan fully engages around 240°, you will hear it when it happens.

Trans temp likely will never exceed 215°. I don't know what temp triggers the fan or de-fueling, I've never seen it above 213°.

I have run as high as 248F on the oil with no issues. About the same time I can get the water temp gauge to 3/4 and did not have any derates.

Keep in mind that is heavy mountain long grade pulling.

Trans moves some but as stated above about 215 F is all I get.

If you haven't already, check out the Torque Pro thread. You can set up the gauges so an alarm sounds at the point you choose. Most of us who are using TP love to watch the actual temps at any given time. When you add the coolant temp/oil temp/trans temp on one screen it gives you a clear view of what is going on.

This is about what I have seen too! And like Senix, pulling 6 and 7% mountain grades for several miles with 17-18000 lbs of trailer in 95*+ ambient air temps!
Run it like you stole it! Good luck.

Thanks guys.

I'm in AK and ambient is no where near what y'all get.

Highest temps I've had were at GCVW of just over 22K pounds. Oil was 215; Trans at 204. Good to know.
