As many know, I am restoring a 1984 Ford F150. In my many challenges to find parts and restore or clean parts I have come across a product that is not only reasonable to purchase but really does a great job. It is Super Clean in a purple gallon container. Here are a couple of things I have used it on. Brackets and bolts that are rusted and greasy. After about 24 hrs of soaking they look new and clean after rising them off. I have also put old hoses that I have not been able to find new one, i.e. Smog hoses on the air valve, no longer made and they have several bends and you just cannot duplicate them. Also the hoses seem to come out more flexible and of course clean. You could not see the Motorcraft writing on them or the part # and the cleaner did not take them off but the hoses look new and the writing was like it was new. Hope this little bit of info will help others in there tasks to restore their trucks.
This stuff will eat off paint. I had rattle can painted something and did not like the look of it so I put in the Super Clean and it ate the paint off.
I bought 2-5 gal pails (Home Depot) used 1 in the parts cleaner with 5 gal of water. I could add more water as 50/50 does a great job.
WARE HEAVY GLOVES when working with this cleaner. It will suck the oils out of your hands, they dry out and crack!
After I wash the parts in the washer I rinse them in clean water before painting.
In looking for this just now for the link I see ZEP also has a parts cleaning liquid, so may look into that when I use up what I have now, still have 5 gal.

Dave, I tried the ZEP cleaner and found that it does not do as good a job as the Super Clean. You may have better luck with the ZEP in a Washer but I do not have one.
A friend uses Mean Green in his washer and it works well. I use it in a dip tank and am pleased with the performance. It is about $8/gal.
My buddy said don't leave aluminum parts in it for an extended time and don't ask him how he knew. (ha ha) I looked at the ingredients and it is an alkaline cleaner. Aluminum and alkali don't play well together and the alkali always wins.
