You can still get a ticket for unsafe start, rapid acceleration or exhibition of speed.

 

Those tickets are pretty uncommon where I drive.

 

Yah. It's been a long since I've seen or heard of one of those "demonstration of speed" type of tickets. I remember almost getting one back when I was a teenager. When the local constable pulled me over, he must have been feeling feisty, and he gave me an "illegal equipment" ticket because of the glass pack mufflers and large side outlets I had on my 442.

Being a smartass teenager, I looked up what illegal equipment was, and it was defined in the statute as "having for sale, offering for sale, or selling" said equipment. So I took it to the judge and said that I just bought the equipment, I didn't sell it. The judge agreed that I had not broken the law and dismissed the case.

Ah. The wheels of justice.

 

I had a rapid acceleration ticket a couple years ago for pulling out of a Toll Booth too fast. I'm sure that guy just needed to write a ticket for anything he could find.
