Running board question. '56

Hey guys

I'm onto the running boards, kinda. Getting a head start.

One thing I noticed with stock rear fenders and box, the rear fenders are inset from the front fenders by about 2".

So if I make square running boards. They will sit flush on the rear fenders but inset on the front fenders. See pictures.

I assume this is how the fenders are without buying wide fiberglass fenders?

The original running boards sit out from the rear fenders. They have a radius where they connect at the front, more so at the rear.
