Failed #5 Injector Again!

After ~20,000 miles and 3 years I have lost injector #5 again.

Charred from the now brittle white o-ring to the tip and copper washer gone i'm trying to figure out if I need to replace the cup to ensure this seals this time or if someone knows why I keep losing the same injector time and time again?

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Also is there a place to rent the tool vs 279.00 ?

Denny

Bad ground or maybe low fuel pressure?

So you're charring the body of the injector and burning up orings? I read that right?

If so, I'd double check make sure it's getting torqued right during replacement, there isn't a lingering copper washer in the bore(unlikely im sure, especially after two years), or, yes, the cup should get replaced.

If it's as bad as it probably is, you can more than likely see serious grooving or wash out in the bore of the cup.

I would think the fuel pressure would not be an issue with the failure your seeing, but checking it wouldn't hurt.

ETA: Yes you can rent the tool. Ol DieselTechRon used to post the name of the website all the time in his videos before he passed. Freedom Racing has a tool renter for the puller, but it is the full price and they refund half the price after you return it.

Changing a cup isn't terrible, depending on location, but it's still not for the faint of heart.

Replace the injector cup and the injector hold down clamp.

Clean the cup post a picture

If you got 3 year and 20k I suspect internal inject fail yes I understand the outside is burned up

Iirc you run bigger nozzle on inject with only a blue spring mod if this is true can you verify fuel press at WOT prior

Or do I have you confused with someone else

Either the washer was never there, or it's stuck down in the hole.

Over-torqued/yielded hold down bolt left the injector loose, or missing copper o-ring?
