Fuel Pump Issue
Fuel Pump Issue
Was working on changing my fuel pump over the weekend.
So I got my tank dropped and went to install the new pump and that's when I noticed that the new pump only had 1 electrical connector. It's a 4 prong connector.
The wire coming from my truck is a 6 prong connector and the old pump has 2 wires. A 4 prong going into the pump and a 2nd wire that goes towards the back of the tank into some other device.
Anyone else ran into this before.
Is this related to CA emmisions?
Any way to use the pump I ordered?

Just thinking out loud...
If there's only on connector, the unit must be made for a truck that self grounds the unit, rather then externally grounding through the wiring harness.
I suspect that trying to use that pump will not complete the circuit and operate.
I wouldn't want to mess with fuel pump wiring myself to try and modify.

ColterDC - it would be very helpful to anyone interested in assisting you to know that model year the truck is and what engine it has in it. Even better - if this is your truck, place these specifics about it in your signature like model year, engine/trans and so on.
Good idea and I'll get that info added.
To update this post in case someone else ever has this problem and wants a resolution.
It was CA emissions. That means 2 wires instead of 1 on the fuel pump.
Highly recommend going to whatever manufacturer's website and finding the correct pump based on the data provided in your VIN number.
